Celebrating National Carers Week - Millions of Reasons to Care

National Carers Week is a significant event dedicated to recognising and appreciating the invaluable contribution of Australia's 2.65 million carers. These individuals, from diverse backgrounds and experiences, selflessly balance caring responsibilities with work, study, and personal well-being.

This year's theme, 'Millions of Reasons to Care', seeks to highlight the vast and varied roles carers play in our communities. It emphasises the importance of acknowledging and supporting their tireless efforts.

In honor of National Carers Week, we're proud to highlight the partnership between SACARE ONCALL and Carers SA. Together, we're dedicated to uplifting individuals with disabilities, prioritising their well-being, and ensuring their voices are heard.

Carers SA shares our vision of empowering individuals and plays a vital role in supporting carers from all walks of life. Their personalised services, packages, and information cater to Carers from diverse backgrounds and cultures at no cost. They offer coaching, counseling, peer groups, tailored support packages, emergency respite, and more.

There are numerous ways to participate in #NationalCarersWeek. As the date approaches, the official website provides downloadable resources to help you share why you care about carers, and to celebrate them in your community or workplace. They also encourage you to organise an event to mark this occasion and demonstrate your support for carers.

More than one in ten Australians are carers, making a significant contribution not only to our communities but also to our national economy. National Carers Week offers an opportunity to express gratitude to these unsung heroes.

Additionally, this week serves as an educational platform to raise awareness about the diverse range of carers and their roles in Australia. You can contribute by inviting colleagues, friends, and family to an event that showcases the various faces of caring. Consider organising a morning or afternoon tea, fundraiser, or workshop to recognise carers, understand their responsibilities, and explore the available support and services.

National Carers Week is an initiative by Carers Australia, supported by the Australian Government Department of Social Services, and coordinated with the National Carer Network.

Looking back, National Carers Week has been an official awareness-raising event since 1992. It was initially known as Carer Awareness Week, and its inaugural theme was 'Carers Need Care Too!'

This year, we invite you to join us in celebrating National Carers Week, to honor those who tirelessly care for their loved ones. Visit our events page to discover activities happening near you, or host your own event to show your support.
