Why I like writing my Blogs by Alice Waterman

Can you believe Alice has been writing blogs for nearly 3 years! We’re so grateful that Alice has put so much time and effort into these blogs for us. They’re among the most popular pages on our website and we know people love reading Alice’s insights.

With this in mind, we thought it would be nice for Alice to reflect on what she enjoys most about her blog writing.

Why I like writing my Blogs
By Alice Waterman

I like writing my blogs because it allows me some quiet time to share my thoughts and feelings while working on my sentences. It makes me feel happy knowing that I can share my thoughts, views and opinions with my community through the SACARE website and Facebook page. Blog writing makes me feel happy and like I am doing something good because I know that there are lots of interstate and overseas of people who love to read them.

Having a disability doesn’t mean you don’t have thoughts and opinions worth sharing. Writing blogs for SACARE gives me a platform to voice my opinions in the way I want to without others speaking for me. I can show people that a person's disabilities don’t define them. We can go to work, TAFE and university. We can live long happy and exiting lives which foster normal relationships and lifestyles. I hope that when people read my blogs, they get to see this.

I also get to show other young people with a disability that they are not defined by their disability. You can do anything they want to do and be anything they want to be as long as you speak up and believe in yourself. Over the past 2 years I have grown in to a more independent young woman who knows she can do anything she wants. I think this is partly attributed to my blog writing and knowing that my voice is being heard not only by the people close to me but by so many people across the country and around the world.
