SACARE and Enhance Training: Educare Course Success!

Over the past few months SACARE, with the help of Enhance Training have held in-house disability services training. The Educare Disability course had funding provided through the Department for Industry & Skills, which provided graduates with opportunities for employment with SACARE as well as study pathways into the Certificate III in individual support (Disability) with Enhance Training.

This course was a pilot for the collaboration between SACARE and Enhance Training. Run at our Broadview head office, the course was an opportunity for people who had an interest in the sector to enhance skills or get a taste of what a career in disability services could be like. This course was designed specifically for potential support workers to practice core skills and develop a stronger knowledge of the industry.

How did it go?
Successfully to say the least!

With 22 graduating from the program (a completion rate of 90%) and 60% of those who graduated managed to find work in the industry within the first week.

Melinda, the trainer, was really happy with how the course overall, “Although not everyone was able to secure employment at this stage, from the time I have spent with them, I am extremely optimistic about the future of these graduates and confident with their contributions into the growing disability sector. Through this learning journey, I have seen the participants grow in confidence and bond together as a group. We had so many memorable occasions and activities which really enhanced their knowledge and more importantly their interest and respect for the industry.”

She also loved her time spent at the SACARE HQ. “The venue provided by SACARE was fabulous and being in such a vibrant learning environment definitely elevated the moods and wellbeing of the participants. SACARE head office is dog-friendly and I found that the participants really enjoyed their company and it provided a calming therapeutic environment, especially when a lot of students are taking up studies after a long break, which by itself could be a stressful experience.

What’s Next?
Darrel Tan, Enhance Training’s RTO manager said that as a whole the collaboration between SACARE and Enhance was a success to the participants themselves.

“We are extremely optimistic about the future of these graduates and confident with their contribution into the growing disability sector. In a short space of 5 weeks we have seen the participants grow in confidence and bond together as a group.

One of the intentions in developing this program and partnering with a strong and reputable organisation such as SACARE, was to offer a glimpse into the industry and with at least 70% of students from this cohort indicating their interest to complete the full qualification, we couldn’t be happier with the outcome.”

Darrel also added, “We look forward to strengthening our relationship with the various stakeholders while continuing to offer future participants quality training linking to employment opportunities within the industry.”
